Soft tissue sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that are traditionally classified based on histology and tissue type; however, cell origin may not always be clear. Therefore, the identification of genetic alterations along with morphological classification can help clarify diagnosis and classification of soft tissue sarcoma.

Sarcoma Offering

GenPath offers four sarcoma FISH assays: FOXO1 or FKHR (13q14) gene rearrangement for Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma; EWSR1 (22q12) gene rearrangement for Ewing Sarcoma; MDM2 (12q15) gene amplification for Liposarcoma; and SS18 or SYT (18q11.2) gene rearrangement for Synovial Sarcoma. These FISH assays are used as confirmatory diagnostic tools in conjunction with both histologic findings and clinical information.
